Proposed Budget Cuts and Proposition 98 Informational Meetings
Upcoming informational meetings are scheduled this week to help clarify the facts about potential budget cuts and the Governor's proposal to suspend Proposition 98.   For more information regarding these issues, please visit www.carlsbadusd.k12.ca.us  Upcoming Meetings:

Tuesday, February 19th:  Kelly Elementary 6:30 PM.  Speakers include CUSD Board of Trustees and CUSD Superintendent Dr. Roach.

Wednesday, February 20th:  Poinsettia Elementary at 6:30 PM.  Speakers include CUSD Board of Trustees, CUSD Superintendent Dr. Roach, and Director of San Diego and Imperial Counties, Cameron Durckel.

8th Grade Legacy Tiles
Leave your "ART" on the school wall and be a part of  history.  All 8th graders have an opportunity to personalize tiles that will be permanently mounted on the school wall for all future years to view. Purchase before March 17th for only $20.  All tiles after March 17th will cost $25.  Deadline to purchase tiles in March 31st.  Please click here for an order form.  Anyone who purchases a tile will receive $5 off their 8th grade promotion events.  Questions regarding tiles, contact Marla DeGeller 804-0653.

7th Grade Writing Standards Star Testing
AOMS 7th grade students will be taking the Writing Standards portion of the STAR Test on Tuesday, March 4, 2008 beginning 2nd period and ending at approximately 11:00 am.  Please do not schedule any appointments that would conflict with your student being able to participate in or complete the Writing Standards test. In order to assist your student to do his or her best on this test please be sure they are well rested and have a nutritious breakfast.

 
STAR Testing 6th through 8th Grade
All students grade 6th  to 8 th grade will participate in the STAR Test May 5 through May 16, 2008.  Please mark your calendar.  We ask that you do not schedule anything during this time that would conflict with your student participating in any section of the STAR test.

Student Congress
Student Congress is now in session!  Please join us for our school's inaugural session of Student Congress, a fun introduction into the world of speech and debate.  Students will have the opportunity to make speeches in support of resolutions and to defend their positions.  Our Student Congress will take place over two afternoons:  Wednesday, February 27th and Wednesday, March 12th.  Sessions will be held in room 1303 from 3:30 - 5:00.  Please RSVP to Barbie Oetting at theoettings@yahoo.com by February 22nd.

Driver Needed for Holocaust Speaker
A driver is needed to pick up the guest speaker scheduled to talk to AOMS 8th grade students about the Holocaust.  The speaker lives near San Diego State, and is scheduled to speak on March 12th.  If you can help out, please contact Mrs. Hauk-Wood at whauckwood@hotmail.com or at extension 6166 .

4th Annual North County Grand Tasting Event - May 3, 2008

FAME, Friends of Aviara Middle and Elementary Schools Foundation announces its 4th Annual North County Grand Tasting event on May 3, 2008 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.    This annual event raises funds for the middle and elementary schools to support technology, science, playgrounds and more.  If you would like to attend, volunteer or donate a silent auction item, please contact Jacquee Renna

AOMS Spring Musical - Aladdin Jr.
AOMS Drama Department will present Disney's Aladdin Jr. for 3 shows only February 28th to March 1st.   Tickets may be pre-ordered from the Drama Department through Friday February 22nd.  Click  here for an order form, or stop by the office to pick one up.  Complete the order form and return it to the AOMS Administration office with your payment.  Adults are $10 and children under 12 are $5.  Tickets will also be available for purchase at the Box Office prior to each performance.

8th Grade Student Yearbook Adds
Eighth grade parents!  It is time to submit a congratulatory message to your child who is about to complete his/her middle school years.  Only $25, and it will be published in the upcoming yearbook.  Order forms  and all the information you need were passed out last week during Advisory period, and are also available by clicking here   The due date is February 22, 2008!  Don't miss out.

Cartooning Club
Calling all artists!  Use your imagination at AOMS's newest after school club!  The Cartooning Club is designed to help students learn techniques for creating their very own comic strips. Come prepared to draw comic book characters and to create your own story line.  Share your ideas with other and get helpful tips from your classmates.  Our first meeting will be Monday, February 25th.  Meetings will be Mondays after school in room 1801 (Mrs. Bray).  For questions contact theschneiers@msn.com .

Jewelry Club Part 3!
The Jewelry Club is beginning its 3rd round!  If you missed it the first or second time, we will be making jewelry again beginning Monday, Februray 25th.   The class will be from 2:15-3:15 in Room 1424, and the price is just $10 per student.  Sign up right away!  See Ms. Decosmo if you are interested.

6th Grade Jog-a-Thon
The 6th grade Jog-a-thon is scheduled for Friday, March 7th to raise funds for 6th Grade Camp.  We need volunteers to help tally lap cards and squirt kids with water during 6th and 7th period, 6th grade PE.  Please contact Jacquee Renna if you can help with one or both periods.    760-845-2170  or jmrenna@msn.com

AOMS Spelling Bee Winner
Connie Liu, an 8th grader, was the winner of the AOMS Spelling Bee.  The runner up was another 8th grader, Loren Galdiano.  Connie will compete on March 11th in the San Diego County Spelling Bee.  If she wins there, she heads to Washington DC to compete!  Congratulations Connie, and Good Luck.
