Dress Code Reminder
As springtime approaches and the weather becomes warmer, students attire begins to take on more of a summer appearance.  The staff, teachers, and administration at AOMS are requesting your cooperation in assuring that your children arrive at school each day dressed appropriately.  Click here for a copy of the AOMS Dress Code and Grooming Policy as it is outlined in the student handbook.  Please review and discuss it with your child.  The highlighted items are of particular importance as they are the m ost frequently violated areas of dress.

Intermediate and Beginning Orchestra Concert
Please join us for our Festival Concert on Wednesday, March 12, from 7:00-9:00PM.  AOMS Orchestra, along with the CHS Chamber and String Orchestra will present the music they will be playing at their Festival.  The performance will be held at Carlsbad High School's Cultural Arts Center, a $5 donation recommended.

Aviara Oaks Middle School Girls Selected to Attend Science Overnight!
Several AOMS female scientists have been selected to attend the BeWise Science Overnight.  BeWise Overnight is a weekend for middle school girls to explore scientfic mystery adventure, including demonstrations, workshops and a hands-on project, all led by women who work in science every day.  Congratulations to the following AOMS students for being selected:  Kimberly Chang-Haines, Jennifer Kim, Ashley Hope, Ashley Edwards, Michele Higgins, Kaitlyn Steffy, and Juliet Luty.

8th Grade Legacy Tiles
Leave your "ART" on the school wall and be a part of  history.  All 8th graders have an opportunity to personalize tiles that will be permanently mounted on the school wall for all future years to view. Purchase before March 17th for only $20.  All tiles after March 17th will cost $25.  Deadline to purchase tiles in March 31st.  Please click here for an order form.  Anyone who purchases a tile will receive $5 off their 8th grade promotion events.  Questions regarding tiles, contact Marla DeGeller 804-0653.

6th Grade Camp Meeting
Parents and students are invited to join us for a presentation by a representative from Camp Cuyamaca on Wednesday, March 19th, beginning at 6:00 PM in the auditorium.   A slide presentation will proved a brief overview of Camp Cuyamaca as well as some of the camp activities.  You will have an opportunity to have your questions answered at this time.

Holocaust Speaker
A Holocaust survivor will speak to all 8th grade students at a special assembly on March 12th, from 11:30 to 12:45.  A big thank you to all the parents who offered to pick our guest up, we have a ride for her thanks to Kerri Strezzari.

Babysitting Classes are Back!
Looking for something to do this summer and make money?  American Red Cross Babysitting Training Course is back by popular demand!  The course will be offered on April 22nd and April 23rd from 2:15 - 5:30 PM, in Room 1601.  This is an excellent course which teaches safety and safe play, basic care, First Aid, leadership and caregiving skills and timps on finding babysitting jobs.  The cost is $70.   Registration forms are found in the office and should be turned in there also.  Only 12 students allowed in the class!  Registration deadline is April 19th.  Questions, call June Steffy at            804-0313.

Cabaret Night
You don't want to miss this years .... "Come To the Cabaret"
A showcase of talents of AOMS students and staff!  Friday, May 16th, 2008.  Two shows only: 6:00 and 7:30 PM.  Reserved Seating is $20 per person, with a limited number being sold.  General Seating is $10 per person, with a first come basis seating.  Ticket order forms are available in the AOMS office, or by clicking here.  General seating tickets can be purchased at the Box Office prior to each show. 
All procedds benefit the AOMS Drama Department.

Carlsbad High Cheer Leading Tryouts for 8th Grade Girls
The Carlsbad High Cheer Leading tryouts are coming up soon.  You may pick up a tryout packet in our school office.  An informational meeting will be held at CHS on March 18th at 4:00 PM.  All packets are due back to CHS by March 25th.  Don't wait or you will miss your chance to be on the winning Carlsbad Team!

STAR Testing 6th through 8th Grade
All students grade 6th  to 8 th grade will participate in the STAR Test May 5 through May 16, 2008.  Please mark your calendar.  We ask that you do not schedule anything during this time that would conflict with your student participating in any section of the STAR test.

Thank you Jog-a-thon Volunteers!
Thank you to the parents for assisting with the 6th Grade Jog-a-thon!  We couldn't have done it without you.  A special thanks to Debbie Warren, who jumped in and took over last minute!  Thank you, Debbie Warren, Lorie Phillips, Amy Benson, Barbara Chornak, Ellen Fritz, Julie Harelson & Suzette Ridpath.
 
6th Grade Jog-a-thon
All pledges from the jog-a-thon can be turned in to the office by March 14th.    Thank you to all of the 6th graders who ran during their PE class to help raise funds for those less fortunate, and to help reduce the cost for all to this years 6th Grade Camp. 

4th Annual North County Grand Tasting Event - May 3, 2008
FAME, Friends of Aviara Middle and Elementary Schools Foundation announces its 4th Annual North County Grand Tasting event on May 3, 2008 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.    This annual event raises funds for the middle and elementary schools to support technology, science, playgrounds and more.  If you would like to attend, volunteer or donate a silent auction item, please contact Jacquee Renna jmrenna@msn.com or Julie Harelson juliencarlsbad@aol.com .
