New High School
Task Force Preliminary Recommendation The Carlsbad
Unified School District is seeking your input on the preliminary
recommendation of the New High School Task Force. The Task Force is
comprised of parents, teachers, support staff and administrators who
have met over a five month period and considered information on
exemplary highs schools, visited high schools with curricular
specializations and other unique features, reviewed parent
perspectives via web and phone surveys, and reviewed student
perspectives from essays. Please visit the District Website to
read the recommendation here and
provide feedback to The Task Force.
PTSA Hosts
Internet Safety Speaker for General Mtg Do you know what
sites your students are visiting on the Internet? Do you "get"
how sites such as MySpace operate? During this lively
presentation, hosted by the PTSA, speaker Jon Moffat will introduce
you to the "in" websites used by teens, and how you can help them be
safe on these sites. Other topics include how a My Space
profile can lead a predator to a victim, and how to recognize cyber
bullying and how to prevent it. The power of this presentation
is that it is very localized to the Carlsbad Community. Please
join us Thursday morning, January 25th, 2007 from 9:00 - 11:00 in
Aviara Oaks Elementary's Auditorium. The PTSA General Assembly
meeting will be before the presentation.
Mr. Moffat is the
Violence Prevention Specialist with project REACH based at the Vista
Community Clinic. This is a district wide project Rosemary
Eshelman, Safe and Drug Free Schools Coordinator, envisioned to
bring to all students in Carlsbad middle schools as well as to offer
this presentation to all three middle school parents
associations.
Help Wanted! KAWAM Liason
Needed AOMS needs a Kids are Worth A Million Liason to
attend meetings with the Carlsbad Educational Foundation as they
plan this year's telethon on March 22, 2007 at Carlsbad High School
from 6-9pm. There will be four meetings all held at the
Carlsbad Educational Foundation from 8:30-10am. The first
meeting will be on Tuesday, Jan. 16th with 1 meeting following in
February and 2 meetings in March (dates TBA). The liason
is responsible for bringing telethon information back to the
school for the students, staff and parents. Liaisons will be
given flyers and posters at the meetings. We also encourage a
fundraiser at each school with funds donated to the Telethon,
earmarked for the school. Ideas for fundraisers will be
discussed at the meetings. Our motto is "why reinvent the
wheel!" Liaisons will also work with the teacher of the group
that is performing at the Telethon (permission slips,
transportation, etc.). This is a lot of fun and something that
two people can easily do together. If you are interested,
please contact Wendy Johnson at johnsonfam05@hotmail.com.
CYB Registration Ends

season soon, and time is running out to sign up. Registration forms
can be downloaded from the CYB website here. Tryouts for the
