Spelling Bee
Results Congratulations to the following participants in
the school wide Spelling Bee: Justin Collins, Kayla Duplak, Jose
Rodriquez, Diane Kim, Peicong Dong, Joe Gload, Eliane Coffler,
Connie Liu, Janine Chow, Gianluca Pesaresi, Kyle Montiel, Luke St.
Marie, Rachel Davis, Jason Wang, Joe Valenzuala, Melissa Lee, and to
the school champion--seventh grader Loren Galdiano!! Loren will
compete at the San Diego Union-Tribune Countywide Spelling Bee on
Tuesday, March 13, 2007.
Community Forum on Carlsbad
High School Task Force Recommendations at AOE February
13th In response to the upsurge of considerable
discussion regarding the preliminary recommendations of the High
School Task Force, the AOE PTA will be hosting a community forum on
Tuesday, Feb 13th at 6:30 p.m. in the AOE auditorium. In
attendance will be Kelli Moors, President, CUSD Board of Trustees
and Dr. John Roach, Superintendent. The purpose of the meeting
is to provide an opportunity for interested community members to
discuss the issues at hand so that those comments/concerns can be
shared with other CUSD board members. In addition, these
members of the school board will discuss what the process will
entail in the next few months. This will be an AOE PTA sponsored
event.
Champagne Tasting Fundraiser Feb
9th Wine Street, one of our FAME Wine Festival
sponsors, is holding a Champagne Tasting on Friday, Feb 9th as part
of a pre-Wine Festival fundraiser. $5 of each $25 ticket and
10% of all sales will go to FAME. For more information, click

Barnes & Noble Fundraiser Feb
10th Carlsbad's newest school, Poinsettia Elementary
School, will be opening August 2007. Library funding for new
schools is limited. There will be a fundraiser at Barnes &
Noble on Saturday, Feb. 10th from 12 - 8pm at 2615 Vista Way,
Oceanside. Chipotle (next door) will provide one free burrito
with each stamped receipt during book fair hours. A voucher must be
presented at the cash register at the time of purchase and a
percentage of the net sale will be donated to the Poinsettia School
Library. To obtain a voucher, contact Anna Lozar at 804-0062

Spring Musical
3/1-3/3 Tickets are on sale for the AOMS Drama
Department presentation of "Annie Jr., at the Carlsbad Cultural Arts
Center located next to Carlsbad High School. There will be 3 shows
only: Thursday, March 1st, 2007 at 7 pm; Friday, March 2nd, 2007 at
7 pm, and Saturday, March 3rd, 2007 at 2 pm. You may pre-order your
tickets through the AOMS Drama Boosters now through Friday, February
23, 2007. Ticket Pre-order forms are available in the AOMS office
and on our web site by clicking here. All pre-ordered tickets will be
held in "Will Call" at the ticket office for pick up on the
performance date you select. Tickets will also be available for
purchase at the box office prior to each
performance.
Don't Miss This Years' "Come To the Cabaret"
3/30 A showcase of talents of AOMS students and
staff is being presented Friday, March 30th for two shows only
at 6:00 and 7:30 PM. Reserved Seats are $20 per person
with a limited number sold. General Seating is $10 per
person on a first come basis. Ticket order forms are available in
the AOMS office or by clicking here. General Seating Tickets can be
purchased at the Box Office prior to each show. All proceeds benefit
the AOMS Drama Department.
Come Join Us at a YES Meeting! Carlsbad
Youth Enrichment Services (Yes) is a networking group that meets
once a month in the Barrio in Carlsbad on Roosevelt Street across
from Lolas Market. YES has been meeting for the past ten years to
collaborate with other agencies in Carlsbad and the surrounding
areas in the area of youth Development. The Guest speaker at
their next meeting Wednesday, February 21, 2007 will be Kelli Moors,
President CUSD School Board. Mrs. Moors will be giving an overview
of the progress that is happening with Prop P up to this point. The
meetings are always the third Wednesday of each month at noon
and last only 1 hour. Lunch is also provided. If you have any

JP'S Surf Camp Would Love to See You this
Summer JP's Surf Camp
is a camp where surfing takes place in a safe, well-staffed,
instructional environment where wonderful friendships are created
amongst surfers in appreciating and respecting our
oceans. Located in beautiful
Carlsbad at Frazee State Beach, JP's Surf Camp offers children
through adults the opportunity to learn how to surf or better their
surfing ability in a small group environment of 9 surfers per
session. JP's Surf Camp maintains a 3 to 1 instructor to student
ratio with 3 instructors on staff. All instructors are CPR and first aid certified. Small
group instruction provides students with more individual attention

Gently Used Books
Needed! CHS student Clay Johnson is collecting "gently
used" books, grades K-6th for his
Boy Scout Eagle Project for the new Poinsettia Elementary School
Library. Books can be
dropped off at the Cole and Dove Library from Feb. 1st - Feb. 8th in the Children's Room.
Clay has collected 2,500 books and needs 500 more to reach his goal. For more information,

Night with Hollywood Kids Are Worth A Million is
having their 2nd Annual Academy Night at the Ultra Star
Theater, 6941 El Camino Real, Carlsbad on Sunday, Feb.
25th. Come walk the red carpet, have a delicious dinner and

successfully complete his or her middle school career. What a

2007/2008 Transfer Request
Procedures Applications are required yearly for
any student not attending their neighborhood school inside or
outside our district boundaries. Families who are
currently attending Aviara Oaks Middle School on a transfer,
must also apply annually. Approval will be granted if
student maintains satisfactory attendance, citizenship,
maintains at least a 2.0 or higher GPA each grading period and
adequate room exists at our school. Transfer applications are
accepted at the District Office and school site. All
applications MUST be turned in by March 30, 2007. No
exceptions.
AOMS YMCA Winter Sports Season
2/6-3/31 An intermural program designed and
managed by the YMCA is being offered to AOMS students. For the
Winter session, Basketball and Soccer are being offered
Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3-4:30PM at a cost of $100 for the
Season. Financial Assistance Scholarships are
available. Register by calling the YMCA at 760.635.3050
or online at http://ecke.ymca.org. If there are not enough participants
registered, the league will be
cancelled.
