"Hollywood Nights" Concert 3/23
The AOMS Band and Orchestra are celebrating the music of Hollywood at their next concert "Hollywood Nights", on Friday evening, March 23 in the AOMS Multi-Purpose Room.  There are two showings including dinner; one at 6:00pm will showcase the Beginning and Intermediate Orchestras and a Chamber Ensemble Group playing favorites such as "Pirates of the Caribbean" and "The Pink Panther." Then at 7:30pm the Beginning, Intermediate, and Advanced Bands will perform their own selections, including "Eye of the Tiger," "Lord of the Rings," "The Incredibles," and many more! 

As a special treat, the new Jazz Band will be performing with Wayne Johnson as well!  Tickets will be on sale starting March 5, $10 per person includes Dinner and Concerts (student free with at least one paid admission).  Students have Pre-Order forms or you may click

The Secret Garden 3/7-3/9
Students are encouraged to attend the AOMS Library's continuing Secret Garden sessions on 3/7, 3/8 and 3/9. We will meet in the library from 2:30 pm to 3:00 pm, except on Thursdays (3/8) when we will meet from 1:30 pm to 2:00 pm. Each session will include a reading of a chapter of the book, The Secret Garden, by Frances Hodgson Burnett. Students who
attend five of the six sessions are eligible to win prizes such as a ticket to the 3/16/07 Lambs Players Theater musical production of The Secret Garden in Coronado, or the book, The Secret Garden, by Frances Hodgson Burnett, or a key and chain necklace, or other prizes. AOMS PTSA Hosts CHS Principal  3/29
Aviara Oaks Middle PTSA will hold it's Annual General Meeting March 29th, at 6:30 PM in the MPR/Gym.  Please join us as we make any changes that are needed to our budget, receive the mid-year audit report, and elect next year's Executive Board!  Also that evening, we will be hosting Maggie Stanchi, Principal of Carlsbad High School and representatives from the 9th Grade Smaller Learning Communities.  They will provide information for your incoming 9th Graders.  Advance questions can be emailed to

Don't Miss This Years' "Come To the Cabaret" 3/30
A showcase of talents of AOMS students and staff is being presented Friday, March 30th for two shows only at 6:00 and 7:30 PM. Reserved Seats are $20 per person with a  limited number sold.  General Seating is $10 per person on a first come basis. Ticket order forms are available in the AOMS office or by clicking here. General Seating Tickets can be purchased at the Box Office prior to each show. All proceeds benefit the AOMS Drama Department.

CHS Band Concert 3/8
The CHS Band program proudly presents Presidio Brass in Concert with the Carlsbad High School Wind Symphony, under the direction of Ralph Ewell, a special guest appearance by the Calavera Hills Middle School Band.  It will be held at Calavera Hills Middle School Auditorium on Thursday March 8, 7 PM. Tickets are $15.00 Children are free with an adult paid admission. Tickets may be purchased by going through our web site www.chsbandandguard.com or at the door. The concert will benefit the Band Programs.  If you have a students that is considering taking band in their  up coming years in the  Carlsbad Schools this would be a great opportunity to see what it is all about. Registration for Carlsbad Pop Warner Football and Cheer Session 3/17
Please mark your calendars NOW for Saturday, March 17th at Valley Middle School (8am - 2pm).  Please go to our web site here for all the pertinent information and what items are required to register your child.  You can also download the Registration Packet from the their website here , and have it completed ahead of time for your convenience.  Please note that we are asking for two separate checks this year, one for registration (still $250), and one for your volunteer deposit fee (still $60).  This will streamline the refund process later in the year, so thank you for your cooperation. March YMCA Friday Fun Days! 3/16 & 3/30
The Ecke YMCA has two high adventure trips planned just for 6th, 7th and 8th graders.  On
March 16th we will be tackling the UCSD Outback high ropes course.  This extreme climbing course offers high altitude fun for everyone.  March 30th will take us below sea-level as we go

CHS Cheerleaders Spring Break Cheer Camp 4/9-4/12

Parent Project 3/27
The Carlsbad Police Department's GUIDE Program is offering a 10-week course called Parent
ProjectŠ starting March 27, 2007.  The award winning Parent Project is a highly structured parenting skills program designed for Parents who are facing the challenges of parenting strong-willed, non-compliant and/or out of control children ages 11-18.   Because most parents seek help when they are in crisis, the Parent Project offers parents concrete, no-nonsense solutions to even their most difficult of problems. The Parent Project curriculum may be used for both current problems as well as proactive preparation for the challenges of raising our youth in today's society.  An activity-based curriculum enables parents to share ideas and concerns and the parenting techniques suggested can be used in stopping unwanted adolescent behavior and improving the parent-child relationship.

The instructors are Lynda Lennox and Penny Velazquez, licensed Marriage and Family Therapists and independent contractors with the Carlsbad Police Department.  Classes will be held for 10 consecutive Tuesday nights starting March 27, 2007.  The fee for the class materials is $25 for an individual and $35 for a couple.  To register for the class, or for more information, contact Penny Velazquez at 760 931-2167.   Upcoming classes start March 27, 2007

Last Dance of the Year!

The last dance is on Wednesday, March 28th from 2:10 - 3:30pm in the middle school gymnasium.  Wear red and receive a prize.  There will be games, pizza, prizes and dancing as well as a raffle for many prizes and gift certificates.  Remember to have your ID card ready; admission is $5.oo without an ASB sticker.  The ramp doors to the gymnasium will be open until 2:30pm.  There will be no admission after 2:30pm and the dance will let out at 3:30pm. Please plan your ride accordingly.  If parents would like to chaperone, please contact Mrs. Tavares at 331-6165.

FAME Foundation Event -Grand Tasting Tour 3/16
The next trip on the grand tasting tour is Friday, March 16th from 5:30-8:00 pm.  Ticket prices are $25 per person and include beverage samples and cheese & crackers.  Come join us for a fun tour of Napa Valley and win one of the exciting raffle items.  $5 from every ticket and 10% of all product purchased until June 30th, 2007 will be donated back to the  FAME foundation. Learn all the Hottest Dance Moves to Your Favorite Music! Join Melissa Winner Certified Jazzercise instructor and hip hop instructor at AOMS for Hip Hop classes. All levels welcome! Classes take place in the AOMS Dance Room 1501  on Mondays from 2:10-3:10PM starting March 12- May 7th. Cost is $64 for 8 weeks or $9 for Drop Ins. Come try a class for free! 7th Annual KAWAM Telethon 3/22
The 7th Annual Kids are Worth a Million (KAWAM) Telethon will be held at CHS on Thursday, March 22nd from 6-9pm.  Funds raised from the Telethon are donated back to the schools in the form of teacher grants.  This is the only event in Carlsbad where all of the CUSD schools get together and students perform live on Time Warner channel 3 and
www.chstv.com. If you would like to make a pre-donation designated to AOMS, call the Carlsbad Educational Foundation office at 929-1555 or contact Diana Aaron at
dianaaaron@sbcglobal.net.  Donations of $1,000 or more can be walked on the night of the Telethon.

2007/2008 Transfer Request Procedures
Applications are required yearly for any student not attending their neighborhood school inside or outside our district boundaries.  Families who are currently attending Aviara Oaks Middle School on a transfer, must also apply annually.  Approval will be granted if student maintains satisfactory attendance, citizenship, maintains at least a 2.0 or higher GPA each grading period and adequate room exists at our school. Transfer applications are accepted at the District Office and school site.  All applications MUST be turned in by March 30, 2007.  No exceptions.

If you are an outside organization, you must contact Libby Knapp (lfbknapp@sdcoe.k12.ca.us) first at the Carlsbad District office for CUSD approval prior to review by AOMS administration.
