Wear Your Cap to
SchoolDay
AOMS is joining Valley Middle School and
other schools across the nation in "Wear Your Cap to School
Day." Caps for Kids is an international non-profit
organization dedicated to giving caps and scarves signed by
athletes and celebrities to children who are cancer
patients. Their vision is to increase awareness and support
for Caps for Kids and youth diagnosed with and being treated for
cancer.
Wear Your Cap to School Day is a nationally
designated date when students may donate $1.00 to Caps for Kids
for the privilege to wear their favorite ball cap to school on
that day. This year's designated date is Friday, October 6, 2006.
Students who participate and pay $1 will be the only ones allowed
to wear a hat to school on Friday October 6, 2006. Upon
paying $1 each student will receive a "Caps for Kids" sticker to
wear on Friday the 6th as proof of their involvement.
The Elementary, Middle/Junior and High
School in each city able to enroll the greatest percentage of
students in Wear Your Cap to School Day will receive a surprise
incentive on behalf of New Era, Hat World/Lids and Caps for Kids.
Please see Mrs. Borders in room 1801 to
participate.
We Need Your Help on Proposition
P
Prop P on the November ballot must pass in order to
build our new high school and replace AOMS portables with new
buildings. For more information about Prop P click here.
We are currently in need of volunteers to
man the phone banks, rally support for the proposition, and remind
them to get out and vote on election day (10 volunteers needed per
session). So get a group of friends together and volunteer for a
couple of hours at Prop P headquarters. The headquarters is
located at 5919 Farnsworth Ct. (off of Faraday and Rutherford).
AOMS designated sessions are 9/27, 10/1, 10/12, 10/21, and 10/24.
All volunteers will be given scripts so there is no need to be an
expert on the proposition. Volunteer hours are from 5:45 - 8:30
PM. High School students can also earn community service
hours volunteering.
For more information, contact Shellie
Robinson at 431-5445 or 533-3314 or by e-mail at shellandsons@sbcglobal.net.
YMCA
Playground Partners
YMCA
Playground Partners is asking parents to serve as volunteer
coaches during lunchtime on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11:00
-1:00 p.m. beginning October 3rd. The program's goal is to
improve the quality of the lunchtime period by involving students
in physical activities which encourage teamwork and sportsmanship,
teach effective communication and conflict resolution skills and
help our students build self-confidence. Our parent
volunteer coaches run games and direct positive, appropriate play.
The more volunteers we have on the playground, the more games we
can provide. If you sign up to volunteer once a week, you can
receive a free family membership to the Magdalena Ecke Family
YMCA. If you are interested in being a part of our
program, please contact Courtney O'Mahoney at 760.942.9622 x1428
or comahoney@ymca.org.
